Before beginning a make-up application, ensure a few of the basics are in place first, that your skin is clean and blemish free and with little oil coming to the surface.

Eyebrows are not tweezed or plucked out too thinly, as eyebrows frame the entire eye area and add harmony and balance to your features.

Defining eyebrows can be done with a dark brown or black eye shadow powder, as apposed to the eyebrow pencil. The powder creates a softer look. Should you enjoy an eyebrow pencil, ensure that the colour is being brushed onto the hairs, colouring the hairs slightly, rather than drawing a hard line, across the top of the eyebrow, as it is always best to try and soften your look. By drawing a line across your eyebrows, will make your face seem hard, as it creates a hard line, which will also make your features seem smaller, closing in the eye area, when we want open out and elongate the eye area.

Whether using an eyebrow pencil or eye shadow powder, touch the hairs and use an upward sweeping movement, the same as when you are plucking your eyebrows. Remember that when you are plucking your eyebrows, take your time, remove conservatively and remove one or two hairs at a time and in upward sweeping movements too.

Another reason you should not draw a line across the top of your eyebrows is that you tend to not only look hard in your facial features, but, it forces the eye focus on that one particular area, detracting away from the eye shadow colour application and this creates an imbalance in the overall look of your face.

Also, remember, don’t pluck too close to an event or special occasion, or in the morning before a function, thinking it will be fine to touch yourself up, by getting rid of the one or two stray hairs on your eyebrows, this will cause red marks and little raised red spots or a bump and may even cause a breakout or pustule to develop a couple of hours later, which will look unsightly on your colour eyeshadow application.

The easiest way to remove eyebrow hairs with ease is to have a hot shower first, which will open up the pores, soften the skin, allowing for easier removal of the hair, with less pain.

Once you have removed the hair, use a toner where you have plucked out the stray hairs, as this will close the pores, allow for quick recovery of the skin and prevent dirt getting into the area and a pustule forming. Also, remember, don’t try to pull out or pluck out the ‘little black dots’ of hair or regrowth that occurs, wait until the hairs are longer and then pull them out or you will cause scarring and damage to the skin.
